Still #1

I purchased a Nook Color from Craig's List for $20.00 last week. The seller asked that we meet in a public place to complete the sale. So I drove to a 7-11 parking lot, alone, at night, and waited in the shadows. After a while, a car pulled up and two men and a woman got out. [Spidey senses tingling] She walked up and handed me a bag, I reached in my pocket and handed her some money. Then we got back in our cars and drove away. The whole transaction felt rather seedy.

Who were these people? Did I just buy stolen property? The Nook battery was completely dead and took all night to recharge. When I finally got it working, I found that it was registered to a previous owner ... but not the woman I'd just bought it from. Hmmmm.

I decided to email the registered owner and ask if it was stolen. She replied back that she had given it to her brother, and didn't care if he sold it. She was happy to hear I was deleting all her personal information and re-registering the Nook in my own name. We need to trust one another, but it sure feels uncomfortable at times.

I've had my Nook long enough to learn the basics, and I've already finished a couple of books. I've used the web browser, but still haven't set up email yet. On a whim I bing'd Scarred Bark just to see if my old blog was still there. Drum roll please ... #1 on Bing! What a pleasant surprise; I haven't made a post in more than two years.
